Starting at Copa Airlines

2026-06-19

Big news: I started a software developer internship at Copa Airlines this summer, working with the frontend team here in Panama City.

Doing this back home in Panama means a lot to me. I have spent the last few years building projects at FSU and pushing to get into software full time, so getting to do real product work, in my own city, is a moment I will remember.

Right now I'm heads-down on a content-versioning proof of concept. I'm standing up the data model, wiring up access control, and figuring out how a real product team thinks about shipping something safely rather than just quickly.

What's stuck with me most is how much care goes into the parts nobody sees: who can read what, where secrets actually live, and how the data gets modeled before a single piece of UI exists. On my piece I made sure write credentials stay on the server behind a token, so they never ship down to the browser. Small detail, but it's exactly the kind of thing that keeps a product safe.
